It also shows that God can take any of us, whatever condition we’re in, and change us for the better, then do great and wonderful things in and through our lives. Yes, He can. Now, you may find yourself wondering about the title of the long story in this book, “The Man in the Ditch.” Why would anyone think of such a strange thing? Well, remember that a ditch isn’t always just a ditch. Sometimes it can be a symbol too, and that’s what it is here – a symbol of the many obstacles that can rise up before us. And when we do encounter an obstacle, such as a ditch, what can we do about it? At first we may fight it. After a while, though, we may get tired and eventually give in. And then comes the worst part: we may come to believe that we’re better off living with this problem. That’s the worst moment of all. That’s when we have to remind ourselves that the obstacle isn’t a good thing in our lives and that the ditch isn’t our friend, or our home. That’s when we need help to overcome. This book was not written about anyone in particular. It’s just a series of simple ideas pulled from my imagination, reformed into a story and some heartfelt poems, and placed into the mind of a young schoolgirl. I hope and pray that it will be a blessing to all of you who take the opportunity to read and enjoy it. Pauline M. Brown was born January 14th 1950 in Aiken County, South Carolina, but she was raised in Barnwell, South Carolina. She is the author of two books, Lord Can I and Sister Gossip Gets Married. She married at the age of seventeen and wrote a four page letter to her husband everyday while he was serving overseas in the Army during the Vietnam war. After the war, many changes occurred in her life. She and her husband took different roads in life but still remained friends. She writes to communicate her passion for people, her respect for the
past, her concern for the future, and her reverence for God.
